Access of Solar Protons into the Polar Cap A Persistent NorthSouth Asymmetry

چکیده

Before the magnetic storm sudden commencement during the November 2, 1967, solar particle event, the access of 1.2to 40-Mev protons into the high-latitude portion of the northern polar region was delayed by ~20 hours. At the same time the access delay for 10to 40-Mev protons was •1 hour in the southern polar region a•d at middle northern latitudes. The implications of the north-south asymmetry are discussed.

Solar wind ionic charge states during the Ulysses pole - to - pole pass

We analyze and compare the ionic charge composition data for different types of the solar wind (slow wind from equatorial regions, fast wind from low-latitude coronal hole and fast wind from both south and north polar coronal hole) which the Solar Wind Ion Composition Spectrometer (SWICS) on Ulysses observed during the pole-to-pole pass of its primary mission. The implications on the electron t...

Plasma sheet and (nonstorm) ring current formation from solar and polar wind sources

[1] We consider the formation of the plasma sheet and geosynchronous region (nonstorm) ring current in the framework of collisionless test particle motions in threedimensional magnetospheric fields obtained from self-consistent MHD simulations. Simulation results are compared with observations of the near-Earth plasma sheet from the Polar spacecraft during 2001 and 2002. Many particles were ini...

On solar protons and polar cap absorption: constraints on an empirical relationship

A large database of Solar Proton Events (SPE) from the period 1995 to 2001 is used to investigate the relationship between proton flux at geostationary orbit and Cosmic Noise Absorption (CNA) in the auroral zone. The effect of solar illumination on this relationship is studied in a statistical manner by deriving correlation coefficients of integral flux and absorption as a function of solar zen...

The Effect of Solar Particles in the Choice of Alloy Shielding in a Satellite

The damages and logical failures in dierent parts of a satellite may occur during a solar event, when a bulk of solar energetic particles approaching the Earth. During solar events, these particles may cause extensive damages which are even permanent (hard errors). A way of damage reduction is designing a proper coating as the fuselage. As protons are the major component of solar particles and ...

CIRCULATION FOR IMF By NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE

Measurements of the neutral wind in the polar F-region from Dynamics Explorer-2 (DE-2) have been used to illustrate asymmetries in the Northern hemisphere neutral circulation that are dependent on the sign of the By (East-West) component of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF). Individual DE-2 orbits and averaged data sets from different Universal times are presented. The data are categorize...
